Recent Riots August 30, 2011

The recent riots have lead many people to further question what “Big Society” really means. Does it, as many fear, mean creating a public service vacuum and hoping for the best? Public services are, by definition, currently owned by all of us. We should not abandon them without being clear that we can do without them. We should not delegate them without being clear that we remain accountable for whatever we delegate. We should not keep them unless we can clearly justify doing so as being in all our best interests. These are the big picture public service governance issues. Where is the debate that addresses them?
